I’m glad you drew the parallels, Phillip. Consumerism and the needless accumulation of goods is a real problem in this country.

I think the reason more people didn’t focus on it here is that the article is about finding balance between scarcity and its attendant mindset and a lack of scarcity — as shown in the waste of perfectly good chicken wings — and a wasteful or ungrateful mindset.

It’s not about the joys of consumerism and the vast piles of trash we create in the pursuit of it.
