I Baked A Cake for a Super Bowl Party and Then Didn’t Go
On Sunday I baked a cake for a big Super Bowl party.
Don’t worry, I didn’t actually go to the party. As you probably know, I’m done with the NFL. But I treat the league like church — it’s not for me anymore, but I’m no zealot.
So instead, I went to another Super Bowl party.
Basically, my wife and I hung out at the home of some friends and we all gathered around the television like it was an electric campfire, talking an occasionally looking up to go, “Wow. The game is still 3–0?”
But I digress. This is really about the cake. Weeks ago, I promised my pushy long-time friend that I would drop off something for his Super Bowl party (we can’t be everywhere).
Like what? he’d said. Like what, like what?
I thought about it and told him I’d make a chocolate sheet cake.
So I did. I made the Hershey’s “Perfectly Chocolate” Chocolate Cake. You should try it. The recipe is on the back of the cocoa container. It is moist, delicious, and dead simple and I don’t even make chocolate cake very often.
But when I do, I can make this one from scratch in 15 minutes, pour it into whatever version of a large brownie pan I have lying around, and be done with it.
